On March 19, I posted a little story summarizing the March wind situation in Columbus. Through that day, it seemed like it’d been unusually windy, but that wasn’t really the case. Now that March is done, I felt I should see if that theme remained true.
Technically, it did not. That said, wind is one of those tricky things that we tend to overestimate… practically, my opinion is that last month was not exceptional or even particularly noteworthy.
Eleven days had a top wind gust of at least 30 mph, which is a top-10 ranking (going back to 1974). 2022 bested this year with 13 such days, and 2021 tied it. 2022 had 10 such days… I doubt anyone would notice 10 versus 11 days.

The top wind gust for March ended up at 53 mph, just outside the top 10. However, it’s not really appreciably higher than most other recent years. It’s not like anyone can tell the difference between a 47 mph gust and a 53 mph gust.
