For the first time since November 6, Columbus crossed the 70-degree mark on Tuesday. It turns out that it’s right on schedule, too — the average of the first 70 is March 9, using the 1991–2020 climate period. I should mention that the average first date 100 years ago in 1925 was March 22.
This year’s first 70 is behind some recent years, though.
Year | Date of first 70° |
---|---|
2024 | March 4 |
2023 | February 9 |
2022 | March 5 |
2021 | March 10 |
2020 | January 11 |
2019 | March 14 |
2018 | February 20 |
2017 | February 23 |
2016 | March 8 |
2015 | April 9 |
2020 sticks out, and that’s the earliest first 70-degree high on record in Columbus. The latest is April 27, set in 1884. The longest stretch between 70s was a whopping 199 days from October 4, 1925 to April 20, 1926… a far cry from the 125 days we just finished.
